The Environmental Legacy of the Gold Rush
Dr. William Murphy received his PhD from UC Berkeley in Geophysics. He is currently an esteemed scholar in Chico State University’s Department of Geological and Environmental sciences.
His research on the environmental consequences of the Gold Rush – Yesterday and Today is destined to be one of our favorites.
Join us in February and take a trip through our beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills and consider the human, geologic and chemical consequences of our thirst for wealth and gold.
William M. Murphy
William M. Murphy, Geological and Environmental Sciences, conducts international research with leading scientists in geochemistry. He teaches across the curriculum in his department and works with undergraduate and graduate students.
Murphy has published or submitted for publication numerous articles and abstracts, many of the a bstracts involving students or other faculty as co-authors.
In recognition of his expertise in the field of nuclear waste disposal, Murphy serves as an administrative judge for the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board Panel of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
