Lights in the Sky – Rainbows, Halos and UFO’s

It is a wild ride when Dr. Paul Doherty, Ph.D, Director of the Teacher Institute at San Francisco’s famed Exploratorium takes the stage.

In February, this masterful and enlightened teacher will be back by popular demand to explain complex aspects of the physical world in his unique, delightfully playful and accessible style.

UFO”s? Dr, Doherty knows! Paul has taken us to Mars, explored the wonder of lightning, deconstructed the magic of magnetism…..and this year he will takes us into the lights in the sky – Rainbows, Halos and UFO’s! WOW!

Dr. Paul Doherty

Dr. Paul DohertyDr. Paul Doherty received his Ph.D. in solid-state physics from MIT in 1974. After teaching courses at Oakland University in physics, astronomy, geology, electronics, computer programming and meteorology, he became a senior staff scientist at the Exploratorium.

 

Dr. Doherty is also a visiting scientist at Tom Tits Experiment in Sweden and an adjunct professor of physics at San Francisco State University. Throughout his career he has won numerous awards such asthe "Administrator of the Year"Dr. Doherty Teaching in Africaaward from the California Science Education Advisory Council in 1999, theDistinguishedTeacher Award by the American Association of Physicsteachers in 2002, the NSTA's Faraday Award for excellence in 2003.

 

Dr Doherty has written for numerous magazines and publishers including Exploring magazine, Exploratorium Press, Klutz Press, Chronicle Press, and Muse magazine.
